Anyone Belly Cast? is there a cheaper way to do it without buying the kit?

I would love to do a belly cast but it not something I really want to spend money on right now.  The kits are kind of over priced in my opinion.  Has anyone done one?  Can I just get the stuff to do it at my local hardware or craft store?

  • I'm interested in this too! (But I don't have an answer!)

  • You can buy rolls of plaster for a couple bucks at AC Moore or Michael's, then just lube up your belly, cut the plaster into strips, dip in warm water and lay it on til you've built up a few layers.  Not sure how many rolls it'll take, probably 2 or 3 at least... which may or may not make it as expensive as the kit.  How much do they cost??

  • I'm sure you could do it with strips of paper and flour and water. We did these kinds of projects in art in school. There may be a step by step how to on the internet somewhere.

  • I have the answer!  I did it last weekend without a kit. i went to ac moore (our craft store, joann fabrics carries the stuff as well, i called both places first) and bought plaster wrap/gauze, the brand was "rigid wrap". i bought 3 packs (8 inches wide by like 180 inches long) but only used a little less than 2 packs. i cut in into 4 inch wide strips so it was easier to use. make sure you really lube up with vaseline even though its a mega pain to wash off afterwards. dh wore gloves while putting it on me because it was pretty messy. also, make sure you cover the chair your sitting in and the floor around you with plastic, again, its pretty messy. we did like 3-4 layers of it and its pretty sturdy!  good luck!

  • I know a gal that did two of these. One she was au natural and the other she wore an old bra that she didn't mind giving up. The difference in the shape was amazing, as the bra gave some lift...if you care about such things lol. The bra also gave handles to hang it from...I know from doing mine that I was slightly leaning back in a chair and only had the kids helping me and  "the girls" looked rather saggy and off to the side... Just a thought...I think they are all beautiful anyway:)
