Soft serve was mentioned a few times but I am clueless as to why it would be a no no?  I have never heard of this but I admit I eat whatever I want.

Because they can't clean the tubes in the machines and the icecream that gets in there spoils and creates bacteria, listeria etc. It's quite disgusting actually.

For the record: I'm pretty sure that spinkles/hot fudge and other toppings KILL all signs of lysteria...

At least that's what I tell myself.

I worked at a restaurant that had a soft serve machine and we had no problems cleaning the machine, including all the tubing.  It was emptied, cleaned and sanitized every evening.

I think it's more of a matter of you don't know who actaully does this and who doesn't.
