Two Under 2

2nd as easy as 1st??

I know this is totally an opionated question but.....

My DD has been an angel from day one. She started sleeping through the night at 6 weeks, started crawling at 4 1/2 months. She hardly ever cries (only if she is super over tired or has a dirty bum and even then it is more whinng then crying) She loves people. going out and almost nothing will upset her schedule.
Now I wonder if the next one will be so much harder because I was so incredibly lucky with numer 1.

Dh seems to think that becasue one was an angel 2 will be a devil. WDYT??

  • it could happen - each babe is different. My #1 was much harder than my #2. But the opposite happened to my B&SIL..they had the most difficult baby ever for #2. Our friends have 2 babies and each one was perfect right out of the womb. Our other friends have three "devil babies"....you get the idea...
  • This is what I thought Tongue Tied I wish there was a garuntee to this. But life is never that simple. I'll just keep hoping that I have only angel babies. Smile

  • I thought ds #1 was a good baby.  Ds#2 puts him to shame.  Slept through the night at 4 weeks and only cries if he is hungry or tired.  He is such a happy baby and loves to just hang out at watch his big brother.  Everyone told me I was in for it because I had such a good first baby but we lucked out twice.

  • I don't think that makes a difference. You could end up with 2 easy babies, 2 hard babies, 1 and 1, etc.

As far as temperament went, DD#1 was extremely fussy, DD#2 was easier, and DS is VERY laid-back. They have gotten easier in that respect.

As far as STTN, NONE of my kids were good sleepers in the first year. ALL of them were nursed every 3 hours round the clock until AFTER 6 months old. So, I'm 3 for 3 on bad sleepers.

Ditto this with my DD.  Everyone says we hit the baby lottery twice

  • I think about the same thing! DS1 was the easiest newborn ever, and is a great toddler (never sick, no tantrums, etc...). I just assume DS2 won't be the same way, but I'm hoping he will!

  • Honestly, it could go either way. DS1 was a very high maintenence baby. He was colicky and cried almost constantly his first 4 months. And he was pretty high maintenence until he turned about 1 (of course each day get a little better than the one before), but he is a delightful, easy toddler (knock on wood!). DS2 was a difficult baby because he wanted to be held all the time and had a meltdown any time I tried to put him down. It wasnt easy trying to hold him all the time when I had a toddler to care for too. But once he hit 4 months he has been MUCH easier than DS1 was at that age. He is content to sit and play with toys by himself, or play with me. Much more easy going than DS1 was. But now they are both pretty easy going and life is great! It is all up to the child's personality.
  • Roll of the dice.

My first was very challenging as an infant and even more so in early toddler hood.  Now he's a piece of cake.

My second was an insanely easy baby but turned into a frighteningly manipulative, smart, naughty toddler right around his second birthday.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • DD was a very easy baby.  Now DS is the complete opposite of her.  Very fussy, doesn't like to sleep, only likes to be held.  I agree that each child has their own personality and it's just a roll of the dice what you end up with.
  • I actually had two angel babies. Great happy dispositions, decent sleepers.  Now, I just pray that DD2 doesn't turn into the devilish 2 year old DD1 is... :)

Well DS was a really difficult baby so I'm hoping that means I'm due for an angel baby this time!!! ;-)
  • So far, NO, my 2nd is not as easy as the 1st.

DS was an awesome baby.  Never cried longer than 10 minutes, ever.  STTN early on (6 weeks?)  Just super easy.

DD is giving me a run for my money.  She gets fussy easily and is hard to calm down.  She fights sleep.  She's amazing and I love her to pieces, but she is NOT easy.

Me too! Although she is a decent sleeper, so we lucked out there!

  • I honestly didn't think it was possible (because DS was SO good!) but I think DD might even be slightly better!  Yes, it can happen!!
