Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When did/will you transition to the crib?

DS sleeps takes such good naps in his crib, I'm thinking it may be time to transition him.  I think he's so young to be in his own room, but it is right next to ours and if I worry about transitioning him now.  Am I crazy?

Re: When did/will you transition to the crib?

  • Eloise has slept in her crib from day one. Her room is right next to ours and we can hear her if she starts to fuss or cry.

  • I was going to start moving DD last weekend but someone (::coughDHcough::) wasn't ready yet. We are in the same boat - her room is right next to ours. Maybe in a few weeks he will man up and be ready!!
  • DD was 8 weeks old when we put her in her crib at night.

  • We just did at 8 weeks - she's doing well, but she had already started sleeping pretty long stretches at night.  It didn't seem to phase her at all - previously she was in a PNP in our room.  It is kind of freaky because our bedroom is on another floor, but we all seem to sleep better now, and we have a video monitor so that helps!
  • We moved DS into his crib around 4 weeks. None of us were getting good sleep with him in the PnP in our room. We could here him, he could hear us. It was just not fun. The first night I put him in his crib I gave him a bath, read a story, and nursed him. I swaddled him and laid him in the crib and he was out within minutes. Best move ever. :) Good luck!
  • I put him to sleep in his crib last night, and there was no problem. it's like he didn't even notice.
  • Our children have the same birthday!  Anyway, my daughter will usually go down around 8 and sleep until 12.  We put her in her crib for this sleep time.  At 12 we usually put her back in our room in the pack n' play because she also wakes at 4 to eat (unless she goes to bed at 10 then she wakes at 2 to eat and then 6, anyway).  She sleeps part of the night in her crib and part of the night with us.  That works for now and we might start putting her back until the second feeding soon.  Don't know if this helped at all!
  • I was going to do 6 wks, but then I punked out :-) Going to try again this Sunday. She probably won't even notice.
  • I want to transition DD(she's 10 weeks now) - she's taking naps right now, but we're going on vacation for a week and a half and she'll be sleeping in her pack n play, so I'm going to start when we get back.

  • We put LO in her crib in her own room at 1 week.

  • we just started DS in his crib this past weekend.  He was almost too big for the basinette.  I think it was harder on me than him - he STTN for the first time!

I think I'm going to start transitioning DD to her crib at night when she hits 3 months.  We bedshare just for the convience of not having to get up to feed her during the night, but she's been STTN for over a week now, so there's really no reason to have her in our bed anymore.

I just wish I could get her to nap in the crib.  She'll only nap in her swing.  How did you get DS to nap in his crib?

He likes his crib to begin with.  We were putting him in there from day 1 and turning on the mobile.  He'd cry at the beginning so we'd take him out and try again the next day.  Once he started noticing the mobile it kept him entertained and he'd lay in the crib longer.  For nap time, I started swaddling him and it did wonders for us.  We have a sleep sheep too so I turn that on, swaddle him, put the paci in his mouth and leave the room.  If I hear him fussing, I go back in put the paci back in his mouth and just repeat until he falls asleep.  He usually falls asleep within 5 to 10 minutes and he'll nap for an hour or two.

  • 10 weeks and we all have been sleeping better since.
  • At about 10 days old...it would have been sooner but he was jaundice and had to wear the bili belt for the first 4 days we were home and it would have been too hard to keep him in the crib with it.

  • I think we did it on day 10 or 11.  First night was rough (moreso on us being paranoid than on DD).  It's been heaven since then.  My husband and I are so much better rested and baby is sleeping so much better.  Right away she was sleeping for 2-4 hrs, then it's gotten gradually longer.  The past week it's been 5 1/2 - 7 hrs straight per night. She loves her crib!  She sleeps much better in it than she every did in the pack 'n play in our room or during her naps in the pack 'n play that she does now.

  • We switched DS#1 at 3 months when he was too big for the bassinet.  We probably should have switched him sooner.  He was fine, but we were sad.  His room is right across the hall.

  • When he outgrows his bassinet(which will be soon) and when I get my angelcare monitor.
