I have a middle aged woman who is a co-worker of mine. My birthday is Friday and she gave me a gift saying it was for my birthday. Just a little something but it was very sweet of her.

Would you write a handwritten thank you card and leave it on her desk or write her an email? I thanked her in person but I feel like I should express it in words as well because it was so thoughtful.

ETA: I mention that she is middle aged because I don't know if that would make a difference in your answer. Sometimes older people think its inappropriate to not hand write a card out.
