So I called A's insurance and was asking about benefits. Holy Moly. There is an initial co-pay for the first visit and that is IT. Even the midwifery practice I want to work with is covered. I had been looking at MAJOR costs under my policy.
But the interesting part came at the end of the conversation when he said that I should know that even should I get pregnant before the wedding, pregnancy is never a pre-existing condition. I laughed. Then I told him that since we are a gay couple, accidental pregnancy is hard to come by. WITHOUT MISSING A SINGLE BEAT he responded, "All I am saying is that you can start sooner if you would like."
Wow. He made my day by not being thrown by that, and with the benefit info.
Re: that was a pretty cool conversation with insurance
That's awesome.
That's freaking awesome.
Does that mean that there might be a baby BGG in the works soon?! 'Cuz that would totally make my day.
bcbs?
it sounds a lot like my coverage. Our coverage is very same-sex friendly (as the ins co puts it) and pretty much everything is covered. The only thing not covered for me/us is freezing and storage of genetic materials. I only had to pay the co-pays when going to see the RE (2 office visits, $10 each), but during my last pg I only paid 1 co-pay and when I'm released from the RE, I'll only have to pay one office co-pay at the OBs office.
I still can't start early - I need to have surgery for my deviated septum first
I will still be paying out of pocket to get pregnant, about 1000-1500 each month, but it is good to know that once we get there, it will be better.
It is a bcbs plan.
