Babies on the Brain

A. left me with her insurance card so that I can check

benefits. This is sort of a big deal because I am self-employed and pay insane amounts for my policy, but that isn't even what I am talking about now.

The idea that I will be legally covered under a gay legal spouse's insurance still blows my mind.  Ten years ago only a few private companies were starting to do it, and in most of the country it still isn't done.  I am so lucky.

(Yes, this will make taxes nightmarish since I will be married for state and single for federal, and the income numbers won't match which triggers a virtually automatic yearly audit). But I am very glad to have equal rights at least in my own state.

  • That is a huge deal.  I'm glad that some parts of the country are going in the right direction - it gives me hope that the rest of us will catch up someday soon.

  • Now we just have to hope that it doesn't take the rest of the country too long to catch up!

  • You're so lucky! Too bad you have to put up with audits, but that's great.

My sister pays a ton for insurance and would love to be added to her partner's policy instead. Ohio stinks like that.
