F/U to y'day's post (18mo sleep regression)

it took 1hr for DD to fall asleep on Sun night, 1.5 on Mon and 2 hrs last night! Thinking it could be teething, I gave her Tylenol but it did absolutely nothing. I did google it and seems like it's not that uncommon, although middle-of-the-night wakings at this age seem more likely (she does do that sometimes too but it's the getting her to sleep that's killing me).

As a result, she only got 9hrs of sleep last night but seemed to be in her usual good mood in the morning. I still feel really bad that she's not getting enough rest and is having probs falling asleep - I really hope it's just a stage.

If anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know. I don't think we want to re-Ferberize as we'll be moving her to a new bed and room pretty soon. Plus, she starts DC in a couple of weeks and I know that'll wreck havoc, too.

  • no suggestions, but i feel your pain. DS was up till after 11pm last night:( part of that was DH's fault, he kept him playing, so we didn't get him to bed till later than usual, then DH went in to check on him too soon after putting him down, and he woke back up (maybe hadn't even fallen all the way asleep yet?) and started crying. and crying, and crying. And calling for us...so we had to go in, and he needed a drink, and needed to say good night again to us (and the cat!) and I had to read his bedtime story again. frustrating.

DD kept putting her face to the crib slats saying "Kiss kiss"

  • Maggie can sometimes take a long time to fall asleep and the time change didn't help us.  I still put her to bed between 7:30 and 8PM (tried earlier and no better, tried later and she just stayed up later).  She often isn't asleep until after 9PM lately and now I have to wake her up in the morning to get ready for daycare and she is cranky about it sometimes.  She knows it is bedtime and she goes in her crib after bath/books but she just stays up talking to her animals.  I figure when she is tired enough she will fall asleep - does she cry and scream at night?  Maggie sometimes cries for about a minute until I am out of the room and then just plays so that is easier for us.  I dread the move to a toddler bed when she can get in and out by herself - I fear she will play all night!

yes, that's the problem. she'll start crying and screaming the moment I step away. She used to go down in her crib and talk/play and fall asleep w/n 10 mins. But she just keeps screaming and screaming for me to come back "Mommy back, Mommy's here" over and over.

I will move dinner/bath/bedtime 15mins later tonight and another 15mins later tomorrow night.

I think it's some kind of a new separation anxiety, maybe she realizes new baby will be here soon.

  • try motrin instead of tylenol for teething.  beyond that, i've got nothing else for you - except to say it often takes jules 1 hour to fall asleep at night.  but she just talks and plays...no crying.

I agree with this.  Tylenol does absolutely nothing for DS.

  • Hey Sofya!  I'm sorry you are going through this.  I think after seeing Elle on Saturday that she is teething--and I agree with PP, tylenol does nothing for AJ, so maybe you should try motrin.

If this continues, you might want to go to the doctor to get her ears checked.  We had issues with AJ after we got back from Jamaica and blamed it on switching him to a toddler bed.  He had teething symptoms kind of and would scream at bedtime and take an hour or more to fall asleep.  After about 5 days we noticed his eyes were bloodshot so we took him to the doctor and low and behold, he had his first ever ear infection.  Although, I don't remember if you said if she was sick or not.  Anyway, see if it passes and if it doesn't, I would take her to the doctor.
