Success after IF

How long did you use the infant swing?

DS is 17 pounds now and seems over it--he hasn't wanted to swing for weeks now. But then again, he's gone through phases in the past where he hates the swing and then loves it again.

I'm dying to put the thing away because it's gigantic, but I'm afraid there will be another Renaissance of the Swing and it will become useful again. How long did you use yours? (FWIW, DS is a pretty active baby.)

After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!

  • Gwen still likes hers.  She is 15 pounds and the swing has a high limit, so she isn't outgrowing it.  She doesn't like it as much as she used to, though.  We will probably get rid of it in another month or so.

  • We have the FP cradle/lamb swing and it has a 25 pound limit (I think). E has never liked being in it for awake playtime, but we still use it even now as an emergency sleep aid.

She's cutting three top teeth at the same time and was miserable Monday night. I finally popped her in the swing at 4:30 a.m. just so I could get 30 more minutes of sleep on the couch since I wake up at 5.

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • We put ours away this weekend.  G is 9 months old and probably about 21 pounds but she was too long for it.  She slept in it as recently as a week ago but I don't feel comfortable with her in it.  She ran hot and cold with it too -- and never actually "liked" it but often that was the only way we could get her to nap so we held on to it as long as we could.  Luckily she will take naps in her crib now so I am happy to have my extra space back....for another large baby item, I'm sure ; )

  • Paige napped in hers every day until 7 months.  I only stopped because she was getting so heavy that it wouldn't even swing!!

  • We are going to put ours away this week... The weight limit is 25 lbs (DD is 21), but the other day when I went to check on her (she napped in her swing until last week), she was bouncing up and down and shaking the whole thing. That was the end of that!  So we transitioned her to napping in her crib (which was much easier than I anticipated) and we are going to put it away until baby #2. It kind of scares me to do that because it was our emergency sleep helper when she wouldn't go back to sleep at 3 am, but I'm not comfortable leaving her alone in it now anyway.

  • H was probably done napping in the swing 6-8 weeks ago. I occasionaly put him in there and snap on the activity tray for a few minutes of play time. I don't even bother putting the thing in motion. He just sits there and plays. I like it because he is starting to scoot and roll (no crawling yet) and this confines him.

  • Ours got put away at 5 months because he really didn't use it much anymore. He no longer napped in it. I moved it into the office for a family gathering and figured I would get it back out when I needed it. It said in there for 3 weeks before I finally realized I wasn't going to use it again and moved it to the basement for storage.

We still used our up until DDs were about a year old for them to sleep in when they had a cold and were congested.  Other than not really swinging with a 20+ lb baby, it seemed to work better for a bigger child (higher sides).  I probably retired the FP rainforest swing a little earlier because I was afraid DD was going to wiggle her way out of it.  In terms of day to day use, we probably were out of it by 7 months or so, although one DD did sleep in it for naps for quite a while (maybe longer than 7 months then...we just moved it into their room instead of being in the living room).

  • Brady napped in his every day for every nap until he was about 8 months old. At that point he was still within the weight limits, but it was starting to "groan" when I put him in it, and he was able to sit himself up in it and it looked like it may tip over. Not safe at that point! Brady loved his swing.

Nolan, on the other hand, HATED it. With a passion. We ended up giving it to a friend when he was about 3.5 months old and never looked back. This time around having toddler toys and baby toys we had no room and packed up many things a lot earlier. Nolan was fine with it!
