Am I being rediculous?

I'm looking for a bassinet.  We used the pack n play bassinet for DD.  But it's so big, it takes up so much room.  And our bedroom isn't that big to begin with.

A friend of mine has one that she said I could borrrow but it's kinda old.  She said it was "redone".  But it just makes me nervous to use a bassinet for DS that isn't "newer".  I don't want it to be unsafe for him.

I was also looking on craigs list.  But is it one of the those things that you either borrow from someone you know or buy new?  Is buying a used bassinet bad?

Or am I being rediclous....should I suck it up and just use the pack n play bassinet again?

Re: Am I being rediculous?

  • What about an arms reach cosleeper??  You can use those a bit longer than a bassinet and they take up less space than a PnP...that is what we are using for the first 4 ish months.

  • I got mine from CL...and I washed all the fabric parts, and made sure it hasn't been recalled or anything. It is awesome! Kolkcraft Tender Vibes bassinet...LOVE IT!!!

  • i'd probably just use the pack 'n play since you already have it & have used it.  then again i'm a bit of a penny pincher at times :) i don't see anything wrong with buying a used bassinet or borrowing one since most aren't used for very long anyway.  why waste the money?

  • do what you think is best! if you dont want to be crowded then buy a bassinet.  i picked mine up at a baby resale store, cheap plus i had filled my punch card and got 10 bucks off of my bassinet purchase.  have you maybe thought about a co sleeper?  that might save a lot of space to depending on the size of your bed.

  • I don't think you are being ridiculous if you don't have a lot of room for a pack and play, but don't you think a bassinet will be just as bulky?

  • We have an arms reach co-sleeper to use for the first couple months - and I bought it used from CL.  Like the PP said - I washed any/all parts that I could and I saved a ton of money - the seller included an extra organic mattress and 5 sheets all for $75.
  • sturgeje...I'm a huge penny pincher too.  That is why I can't decide what to do.  Ug.

  • No, a bassinet is definitly not as big.
  • Maybe do a mini arm's reach co-sleeper. We have a bassinette and dd outgrew it soooo fast. I'm not a big pack and play fan though.

  • used should be fine as long as you try to make sure there is no chance it was recalled... we ended up registering for a graco "travel crib," which is just like a pnp with the basic bassinet feature but a lot smaller. and cheaper too.

  • I wouldn't buy a used bassinet, personally.  I have one that was given to me by someone, but I trust them and I know it's been well taken care of.  Try maybe an arm's reach co-sleeper, or I know that Graco makes travel PNPs that are smaller, maybe that would be good?

  • We bought a wooden Eddie Bauer bassinet of craigslist for DD. A PnP would have taken up too much room in our bedroom, and the Eddie Bauer bassinet was perfect. I sold it on craigslist when we were done (we only used it 6 weeks and moved her to a crib when I returned to work) and I will buy another one on craigslist this time around. I don't think there is anything wrong with a used one... the pad was plastic and I was able to wash it, and just washed the sheets- or you can just buy new sheets, but I don't think there is anything wrong with a used one.

  • Also, it's not like a crib that can be used for a couple years... it's used for weeks- a few months at the longest. So most used ones listed have probably not been used much at all.

  • If you do use the hand-me-down bassinet, which I have to add is perfectly fine and I did it for my first and my second will be too, just make sure it is washed down, all the parts are in tact and that if it is painted, check for lead depending on how old the bassinet is. Here is a buyers guide on bassinets in general, https://www.allreviews.com/baby-cribs/2010/01/24/buying-a-baby-bassinet-or-cradle/ might be helpful to you.
  • I am using a used bassinett that our friends are letting us borrow, I got new sheets for it!
