Anyone find out DC's sex at 16 weeks?

We scheduled our big u/s today. I am really excited to see the baby, but will they be able to tell us what we are having? 16 weeks seems so early! We had our u/s with DS at 19 weeks and he was "shy" so we didn't find out that he was a boy until he was born. I really want to find out this time.

As a side note, should I be concerned that the Dr. wants to do it so soon? I asked him if we could do it when I was 19 weeks (just because we are going out of town after that), and he said that he didn't want to wait that long. I know he would have said something if there was something wrong, but I can't help but wonder what he reasoning was. Of course I didn't think to ask until I was driving home! Anyway, I'm not worried, just really curious.

  • I didn't think they scheduled them that early?

My mom is a fertility nurse, so she brought me in for u/s quite often so we could get a glimpse of the baby, and because I had some bleeding issues that they were keeping an eye on.  When I had an u/s at 16 weeks, they guessed boy, but a few weeks later at my 20, Sofia was clearly a girl!  :)  Good luck!

  • I work at an obgyn office so I had lots of sonos and they were able to tell DS was a boy at 15.5 weeks. I hope you see something!

Oh no! That does not make me feel better! Smile I guess we will just pray for a clear shot of the goods!

  • I'm sorry!  I'm sure you will get a clear shot.  This was just a quick u/s to check on a bleeding issue, so we didn't really focus to much on the gender at that time.  On another note, my nephew was CLEARLY a boy when my SIL had an u/s around 14 weeks!  :)
  • 16 weeks is REALLY early to have your anatomy scan U/S. They won't be able to get the views they need of a lot of things. Heart, kidneys, etc. It's really hard to tell gender at that age as well. I had an U/S at 15 weeks 3 days that looked like this baby was a girl, but it's a boy! LOL

  • I went to a high risk practice and they told me at 13 and were correct.
  • Ok, so would it be dumb to call back and ask why it was set so soon? I obviously want them to get a good look at the baby to make sure he/she is healthy, and if they can't do that then I want to wait until they can.

  • I had mine done at 16 weeks and a few days and they were able to see everything they needed picutres of and we were told dd was a girl.
  • It will be fine. I found out both my kids sex at 16 weeks. They were right on. I think a lot of it depends on the u/s tech, and how much experience they have.
  • I was given a good guess at 12 weeks each time, and they were right both times.

    I would think there's a good shot at 16.
