Is there any chance that this burn center is the only one within 50 miles or so? Do they have a pedi burn specialist that the others may not have. Sometimes if an out of network provider is the only option due to distance or type of provider, you can get an exception and the insurance will pay out of network as in in network claim. I know that you want to take him to the place you feel is best, I don't blame you I would to no matter the cost, but there might be a chance to get it covered.

Well, believe it or not we actually DID get the gap exception and our insurance will pay for all but $30 (our copay amount). We had to pay today and will submit our claim but all follow-up visits (up to 10) are covered, too.
It's a huge relief. My DH will likely have to file the claim (through his employer and he put the visit on his credit card) but hopefully it won't take TOO long to be reimbursed.
