OY VEY. Phone issue update

HR copped out with "its not my job, I provide my assistant, take it up with Receptionists boss who handles the rotation."

Receptionists boss is in accounting and male. Makes a lot of sense huh? *rolls eyes*. I forwarded it to him, to see what he says.

  • Wow....total cop out.
  • Loading the player...
  • So wait...HR is not responsible for employee issues?

    Huh, that's a new one.

  • Stick to your guns on this one, Buckin. You're calling attention to a practice that has very serious implications.
  • Keep fighting the good fight, buckin!  The whole situation is pretty disgusting, and I think it's great that you're bringing it to light for the company.  I really hope SOMEONE listens!!!

  • I forwarded it on to "the guy" but he has a habit of just ignoring anything he doesn't want to deal with. I saw my name was already on the list before they even said anythign to me (which they never did, they told my manager they were putting me on there and he didn't stick up for me-came and said "dont' shoot the messenger but this is what was said to me when I was upstairs")

    Whatever.

  • I'd be sending an email to HR with some keywords that will throw up red flags: hostile, sexist, unfair business practice.  You know, something to get them to deal with the situation.

  • You should reply with "My attorney seems to think so." and see how fast heads spin.

  • Playing devils advocate here, but many HR departments encourage employees to handle conflicts on their own before they will get involved.  It would depend on if they saw this as a true discrimination claim or one person complaining about another.  My guess is that your HR sees it as the second and that is why you got that message.  Not saying they are right.  I am in HR and if something came across my desk like that, I woudl investigate it myself to save the company possible lawsuits.
  • The interesting thing is: I just got the updated phone duty schedule with my name added. (It's not a true rotation as I'm every four weeks yet everyone else is every 8 weeks.)

It is copied to HR director as it is made by her assistant and yet its not copied to the guy who is supposedly in charge of it.

Another co-worker who is on the rotation just told me it was hourly females only. Salaried females are exempt and hourly males are exempt, but no one has ever given her explanations as to why everytime she has brought it up.

They do the same thing to her "its so and so who handles it" and so and so NEVER responds to emails or direct questions. He shrugs it off or ignores it.
