Hello all, I am in need of some advice...
I currently work for a school district and my boyfriend is a contracted software tester. He at the time does not get health insurance from work but is covered by his parents because of the new laws allowing recent college grads who can't find a job with insurance. I do have health insurance, and I am covered through August if I decide not to come back (baby due in July).
Issue: We are planning on moving late August to Austin, tx (from chicago), in order to find better jobs and our parents are retiring there. However, as of right now no jobs are lined up, but we are looking....
Am I able to just buy out baby health insurance until we get a job there? I am looking into a cobra at my work now, but if that doesn't work are you able to buy insurance for an infant outright?
Thanks so much!
Re: health insurance
You should be able to get COBRA but if not there is no reason why you can't purchase insurance for yourself and LO. The real question is how much it will cost....
You could also go the other way and apply for Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in Arizona. Here is the link: https://www.azahcccs.gov/applicants/categories/KidsCare.aspx#Income_Limits
I would also recommend CHIP, as COBRA can be extremely expensive but if your current coverage is pretty good then it may be worth it to go with COBRA so you can continue the same plan. Good luck!
