So, I know that proper use/ fit is key, and that the baby's chin should never touch his chest. But my baby loves to sleep in a "c" position, and basically *stays* with his chin touching his chest! Combine that with a newborn's poor neck control, and I'm not sure how to make this work. Thoughts?
Oh, and FWIW, I have a Peanut Shell, and I'm 99.99% sure it fits correctly.
Re: Question about newborns and slings
are you stuck on using the peanut shell? those just make me nervous. To each their own (the beauty of being a mom is you get to make the decisions you want for your kids) but it just seems too stuffy and smushed and I dunno... in there.
Have you tried the moby? I made my own with $10 worth of fabric (no sewing) and I loved how baby does not flop around in it, she stayed where I put her, and I could bend down and pick something up without her moving. And you can make the fabric off your shoulder hold their floppy heads, too.
plus the moby does not hurt my neck/back, a bigger deal as baby grows.
Pouch slings are all about fit. If you're 99% sure it fits well then it probably does. I'd suggest looking for a babywearing group or "natural baby" store in your area though that could look at how you're wearing your LO and the fit and give you some definitive advice on positioning. We had a PS sling when A was a baby and while it never fit me it did fit DH really well and he wore A in it a lot. We found that by putting a receiving blanket in the bottom we could keep from having her in a c-position. But remember a curved spine is ok, that is not the "c-position" that is worrisome, chin to chest is the problem.
Moby's are great too but if you like the pouch sling don't feel compelled to switch, just learn how to use the Peanut Shell and feel confident that you're using it correctly. If you're not a member at thebabywearer.com yet I'd suggest you join, take some photos, and post them. The mommas over there are great and will absolutely help you with positioning and probably even find a local expert for you to meet with if you can't find a babywearing group. GL!
