Success after IF

Should I be concerned?

I went for my beta on Saturday and it was 299 at 14 dpo. I thought that I was going to go for a 2nd beta to make sure it's doubling but my RE said that with such a good number they don't do repeat. I've seen higher numbers around the bump that still got a 2nd beta. What are your thoughts? They just said to come in 2 weeks for u/s. TIA

Re: Should I be concerned?

  • From everything I have heard, it is not the number it is whether or not the number is doubling. I would ask the RE for another beta, I do not see why he can not accomidate you - you are paying for it afterall!

    Congrats!

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I would want a second beta...just for peace of mind.

    Congrats!!

  • Thanks. I'm going to call and ask for a 2nd one.
  • Congrats on the good beta.  Hope they give you a second!!
  • My RE only does 2 betas to see if it doubles. If it does, then no more betas, if for some reason it doesn't, then they have you do a 3rd. I only had 2.

  • Great first beta, but they can't tell much from one number.  I would ask for another one.

My RE does 4 minimum on normal ppl.  I had a lot more because they wanted to monitor my progesterone - which was fine - they were being extra cautious.  I think I had betas up until 8wks but I was spotting from a hematoma.
