XP: meet and greet or sip n see??

Anyone have one or plan one? Does the mom host it or a friend? I'd imagine the mom would have to be involved since it will involve the newborn, right? How old are the babies when these are held?

I do not anticipate nor would I want a second shower- my goodness, we have everything we need, even if the baby is a boy, 2 friends have offered me all their boy clothes. However, I do feel like this baby should be celebrated in some way, you know? I thought a meet and greet type of thing might be fun, that way the baby is here and everyone can see him/her. Plus, if people want to bring a little something, they can have fun and get gender appropriate things...but I'd like to ask for no gifts if that's possible. I just...in the words of Veruca Salt, "I want a party!" ;)

Thoughts?

ETA: Would you be concerned about germs?

    We had a meet and greet for # 1 in place of a family shower. We did it when she was about 3 weeks old and it was hosted by my aunt.

    This time around, I thought about having one but if he is born near his due date, he will be 4 weeks old at DD's birthday party. I can't imagine trying to plan another event in between there. So we will probably just skip it. I'm thinking about doing an extra cake though to celebrate him as well.
