Help! Trig hates the high chair

He really hates it. He always has but he has tolerated it until he got sick this last time and now he kicks and screams about it. I put Sesame Street on in front of his high chair and some food on the tray and he seems to actually be eating a little bit. Was this a horrible thing to do? I was at my wits end. How do I change his high chair phobia?

Re: Help! Trig hates the high chair

  • Is it too confining? I know my DS eats better in DD's booster seat now, so we'll probably get another one of those and just get rid of the high chair.

  • I would try a booster too.  Maybe he feels swallowed up in it or it's too confining for him?  Maybe he associates something bad with it and changing it up might help.  I think you can get a booster for like $20-25.

  • We have never put her in a high chair and started using the booster when she began eating solids. Now we push it up to the table and she has a plastic placemat there and I think she likes being able to eat like a "big girl." Maybe give that a shot?
  • DD wasn't all that fond of her high chair after a certain point. I bought a restauran style wooden chair and she loves that. For her the issue was not being part of the family dining experience...she was too far away from the table.  Now she sits happily pulled right up to the table as a member of the family.
