Success after IF

Starting cereal - what was your routine?

Dillon is going to start cereal and I am wondering how many times a day you feed him as opposed to just formula. I am waiting on the pedi's okay and to get more detail but I don't have a appointment until he is 4.5 months old (she was booked solid until then) - should I wait for the okay or just start now? I think he is more then ready to try.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Re: Starting cereal - what was your routine?

  • We started at 4 months. I added it in as part of his dinner routine at first (because DH would be home to do it some as well). I staretd with rice cereal but it is binding so we only stayed on it for a couple of weeks before moving to oatmeal which he is still on. When you start, don't start with a lot. I would make about 1 oz. worth in the beginning. (1/8 of a cup of water is 1oz). You also want it to be very thin almost like soup. You will add very little cereal at first and don't expect him to eat much of it.

  • We do it as part of her morning meals - it doesn't replace the formula, just adds to it. I'm planning to keep rice cereal or oatmeal as her morning meal because I eventually want to combine it with fruit.
