If you use cloth wipes & solution...

what do you use for solution?  I started out using water, a bit of witch hazel, and a drop or two of tea tree or lavender.  Smelled so nice!  Then I read and was told by drs that baby boys shouldn't be exposed to tea tree oil or lavender due to the estrogenic properties of the herbs.  Basically, boys were growing breasts and the only thing it was traced to was that their moms were using tea tree & lavender lotions/soaps/etc on them!  Whether it is valid research or not is arguable, but it was enough information to set me on the hunt for another type of wipes solution that isn't thought to affect my baby's hormones.

In the meantime I've been using plain water at the recommendation of Dr. Greene (I went to a seminar by him...LOVE him!).  Now that O is eating solids, quite frankly even after I wipe him the smell still lingers after #2 cleanups.  Since there's not a lot of air circulation, it can get kinda P.U. in there over the course of the day.  Tongue Tied  I think a little freshness is in order.  How about rose water witch hazel?  Another essential oil that is more mild but still smells nice?  Anybody else use this?  What do you use for your wipes solution?

Re: If you use cloth wipes & solution...

  • Just this weekend I started using some by Homestead Company - a little goes a long way (I just mixed 2-3 drops in water).  I like to try different solutions because it keeps it interesting and honestly, it keeps me motivated to keep using cloth wipes.

  • I don't measure anything, so I can't give you exact quantities...I'm just estimating what goes in the spray bottle:

    2-3 cups water

2-3 Tbsp soap (whatever I am currently using for her bath)

    2-3 Tbsp olive oil

  • I'm a little late replying, but there is a huge time difference here.  We use water, a good squirt of his sensitive skin bath soap and a few drops of EO.  I like lemon, actually.  Smells so fresh.

  • I fill a spray bottle about 2/3 with water, then a squeeeeze of baby oil and a squeeezzzzee of baby wash. I had a TON of baby wash that we can't really bathe him in, but is fine for this, so at least it won't go to waste.
