DH has been looking for a new job for almost a year. He's just not happy with his current employer. He'll never be promoted becuase they like to consider him on the management track but will never make him a manager. It's annoying to say the least. He's not in sales but is commissioned so they like to raise his goals at a moments notice. They decide not to pay him when he does a really big deal becuase its over his monthly cap when he didn't even know he had a cap and hasn't known for 3 years.
I sent him a company that is hiring and there are two openings that could read from his resume. One his current level and one as a manager. He's never been a manager formally however his manager sends him to all his meetings, asks advice on what to do with certain employees and how to handle them and talks to all the big wigs from other companies now. Basically he's acting as a manager with out the title or being paid.
He wants to move up and wants to not be able to travel (requirement with his current position). He's worried about applying for the manager position and not being considered for the lower one and not meeting expectations for the management one.
WWYD? I said to apply for both but he's hesitant. Does it look bad when somebody applies for a regular position and a management position?
Re: DH is applying for a job, WWYD
Where I work, the managing supervisor is the only one that gets the resumes, so they would go to two different people. I think regardless he should apply to both bc it really shows interest in the company. Even if they see both, they'll determine where he's the most qualified and put his app there. It would be better than applying for one, only to find out he was better suited for the other and now its too late.
Good luck to him, though!
