Austin Babies

Weight Update

Will had his appt at the pedi this morning and weighed 21 lbs even. Still not a ton of weight gain since 9 mos (19 lbs 10 oz), but it IS a gain. He dropped to the 20th percentile (from the 25th), but the pedi was not concerned. He said some kids are just skinny. And I guess my kid is that kid. As long as he's gaining weight, not losing or maintaining, we're fine. He also told us not to worry about mixing in a bit of chocolate with his milk to encourage him to drink it.

Thanks for calming my mommy fears last week :)

Re: Weight Update

  • Yay for gaining weight. Someone has to be on the lower end. I'm sure you mean 19 pounds and not 9 :)

  • Yay Will! That's great news. My boys are skinny minis too.

In fact, I think Will weighs more than my K2. :-)

    Oops! Yes, 19!

I don't mind him being thin at all - my DH is 6'7" and weighs like 190. But I do want him to be gaining weight. When we went in at 11 mos it was a sick appt. and he'd only gained about 1/2 a pound since his 9 mo. check. And at his 9 mo. check he'd lost weight since his 6 mo. check. So it made me nervous! Thankfully there's nothing to be nervous about :)

  • I don't think you have anything to worry about. G is so skinny, I am sure he will be tall and skinny like his daddy. That is not a bad thing! ;-) I am glad that he told you it is ok to mix in some chocolate syrup. Austin doesn't like it plain either, and that is the only way I have found to get him to drink it. Yea for weight gain and a healthy check up!!

  • Glad to hear about the weight gain!  But it did make me go back and check--DD only gained 8 oz between her 9 and 12 month appointments.  At 12 months she weighed only 19lbs but was in the 25th percentile.  How is it that your DS isn't at least in the 25th percentile since he weighs more than my DD did at her 12-month check up?  Interesting...

ETA:  I hope that didn't sound bad.  Just wanted to let you know that there are smaller babies out there who are perfectly healthy too.  As a matter of fact, Will, at 12 months, is still bigger than my 13.5 month old.  But, we've been told she's healthy, so I'm thinking Will is too.  Smile

I think boys and girls have different charts.

  • DD is skinny too.  That's just her curve.  Sound like you got a little guy too.  As long as he is eating and thriving, I would not worry.

I asked that several months ago because I could not figure it out! :)

  • Glad you're not worrying anymore!  Weight issues are very stressful.  Baby A has been a skinny minnie since day one and I worry about it a lot too, but like you said as long as they are gaining everything is good!
