18 month sleep regression question

mar is 18 months and two weeks old and I think we're in her version of sleep regression.

For us, thank the good lord in Heaven above, it does not (yet) involve night wakings.  It does seem to involve taking literally, an hour to fall asleep.

We've been keeping her on her normal nap and night time sleep schedule but it's taking her anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes to fall asleep.  She's just in her crib, talking and playing with her animals.  When she does fuss, we respond immediately.  Most of the time we rock for a few minutes then she tells us "bed" and "bye bye" then goes back to sleep.

She's not sleeping any longer or later to make up for the missed sleep, but so far it hasn't bothered her.

Should I try keeping her up later or is it okay that she's in there (happy) by herself for so long?

Re: 18 month sleep regression question

  • Just hang in there.  DD needed to be rocked for 30-90 minutes during that phase, and when she came out of it she seemed to do some sleeping in on weekends for a few weeks...I think to make up for the later bedtime.  Sometimes we started the bedtime routine a little early since she was fighting sleep, but for the most part we just rolled with the punches and it started getting back to normal in 2-3 weeks.
