Sorry to obsess. We got in tonight with a ped. ortho. When I called the one we saw today for a copy of the x-rays and told them we were having another look-see, they told me that it is not common to hard cast humeral fractures.
Maybe so, but he is 2. And he runs around, and is not keeping this on at all. How can I go in and respectfully get my way?
Re: Davez...
well, from what I remember from my days in ortho...
is it a supracondylar or a radial head subluxation fx? someone explained the growth plate thing to you, right? And talked about the fx in relation to that?
hard to really say without knowing right where the elbow is broke...
that clinic really shouldn't give a rat's ass about what you want to do, and if they're giving you lip kindly tell them *I* will come down there and kick some ass and take names later.
They're YOUR xrays, tell them you're stopping by at Blahblah o'clock and you would appreciate them being at the front desk for pickup. Don't let them tell you you have to pay to get them copied, say you'll bring them back in the morning. If they argue, (and evidently WANT me to kick their arse) ask to speak to the CLINIC MANAGER and calmly explain what you want in 10 words or less, and be forcefully nice.
;-)
lemme know how this turns out.
Thanks! All I know is that it was the distal end of the humerous. About 3/4-1 inch from the end. It goes straight through. A simple fx.
No one mentioned the growth plate, and the Dr. did say that these usually heal nicely.
I am not worried about getting the images, but moreso about getting new Dr. to put a hard cast on it rather than this soft splint.
sounds like you saw my Dr. Monkey's brother: Dr. Ape, D.O.
Listen to the peds doc. I bet they'll cast it. But I'd trust his opinion a lot more than an adult doc.
the growth plate thing is that area (probably right where it's broke) where the new cells and bone growth occur in his younger years. It's a very BUSY area, and a fx in the middle of it could upset the apple cart. or not.
but listen to your doc. lol.
update me later, if you don't mind.
