Baby Names

Please be honest . . .

If our last name is Russell, can we get away with naming a boy Jackson - if we only called him Jackson?

  • Don't do it.  He might want to be a "Jack" when he hits school... and well... you know how kids are.
  • You may call him Jackson, but others WILL call him Jack.  Even if they are corrected, they'll make the connection your trying to avoid.

  • I love the name Jackson but not with your last name.  Kids are cruel and he will likely be teased.
  • NO!

  • IMO with a name that is used a lot as a first name as a surname, you should stay away from a surname as a first name. People will be confused whether his first name is Russell or Jackson.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • I wouldnt do it either.  My mind went directly to Jack Russell, too.  Sorry.

Also, the point of staying away from surnames is a good one.

  • Don't do it! I love the name, but definitely not with your last name because his name will get shortened to Jack.

  • I probably wouldn't do it...although I had to read most of the replies to actually get "Jack Russell" out of it (sorry I'm overly tired today and definitely don't catch on as quickly as I normally would) kids catch on to things like that pretty quick.
  • Nope, I wouldn't chance it.

  • no, you cannot name him that.  sorry
  • There is absolutely nothing wrong with naming your son Jackson Russell, but you need to know that he will be called Jack no matter what and he might even want to go by Jack as well. I know this because my youngest brother is named Jackson and the only time he was called Jackson was when my mother was getting on to him lol. I call him Jackson but his school friends and teachers call him Jack, and he prefers that.
  • Also I forgot to add that by the time your DS gets into school, most of if not all of the children will not even know who Jack Russell is. The only people who will be thinking that would be the adults.
