High-Risk Pregnancy

Intro expecting baby #2

I guess I just wanted to introduce myself...as I get further along I am realizing that I will probably be frequenting this board more (I am more of a lurker now).

I had severe, sudden a-typical presentation of Pre-eclampsia that developed into HELLP syndrome at 28 weeks with my DD and was hospitalized after going into ER with complaints of severe left arm pains and trouble breathing/chest pains. They found a blood clot in my arm and found that I had Factor II and MTHFR. I was put on mag and heparin (for blood clot) and stayed in the hospital on strict bedrest (catheter and all)...somehow we lasted 3 weeks! And I delivered DD at 31 weeks via emergency c/s which I had a seizure during due to my epidural. I was given 2 blood transfusions and taken to ICU for 24 hours and put back on mag, I never saw my daughter. DD was 2 lb 14 oz and 15" she stayed in the NICU for 44 intense days. Other than some delays due to prematurity (which we did PT and OT for) and reflux, DD is great. Luckily I saw a therapist at DD's isolette weekly and once she got out. Because I was able to process all the emotions that come with a traumatic birth experience and NICU stay, we felt ready for another baby.

This pregnancy is going good so far, bp is good and I am on Lovenox for blood clots. I am sure I will be at least seeing some bedrest this time, but I will do whatever it takes to keep this baby out of the NICU and growing in my womb. We are hoping for a full-termer this time!!

GL to all the bedrest mama's, I know it stinks (and I was only on br for 3 weeks)...but it will be worth it

  • Welcome!  I've seen you on the preemie board where I've been doing a little lurking and posting since I will be induced at 34 weeks.

hope you have a easy and full term pregnancy this time, but this is a great place to be for support otherwise!

I heart the preemie board! It was my home for the first 18 months of DD's life, I have met a lot of really great friends on that board - it is amazing. I feel bad that I don't frequent it as much, but it's busy with a toddler and being pregnant again.
