  • The hospital I had DD at used Similac Isomil Advanced

  • I think every hospital is different.  I would give them a call.  At first it doesn't matter if you use the same stuff that they had in the hospital.  I know our hospital gave premade bottles that were pure liquid, not powder.

  • They typically use Similac with Iron, or Similac lactose free. You can feel free to bring your own can, but I would keep it at home, and use what the hospital provides.

  • I was wondering about this too.  I heard that if babies get used to the pre-made liquid then they don't like the powder...but I don't know if that's actually true or just a myth.

  • Ours did not have the kind you add water too, they just had little 2 oz plastic bottles that fit the nipple right on them.  But we used the bottles from my pump that I bought from the LC at the hospital.

They just asked who our Pedi was and said "Oh he prefers Similac.....so we'll try that and see if baby does well on it."...so that is why we used Similac for DS#1.  I think the hospital had many different kinds available.

I had no clue since I wasn't planning on formula feeding....and the hospital sent us home with a few days worth so we didn't have to go out and buy any until after DS's first trip to the Pedi.

  • Our hospital has a variety and asks if you know what you will be using at home.  It may be worth a call ahead of time.

  • Their pre-made bottles that do not need water.  We used Similac Sensitive.  Talk to your OB and your pedi and do some research on your own.  It's important to know which brand you want to go with right from the start.

  • Don't buy or bring any, IMO. We had to switch quite a few times to find something DD did well on, so it may end up being a waste. Plus I hadn't planned on FF so I didn't think much about it in advance. Luckily they let you take home tons of extra formula!

They used Enfamil in our hospital, just the premade little bottles that nipples screw right onto. They have a ton though, so if your LO doesn't tolerate one well, they can try another.
