I want to try and BF for a year, and am curious how the amount of BM she consumes will change over the next 9 months. When she starts solids, will she eat less BM? Right now she eats between 4-5 oz. per feeding. Do babies ever eat more than that?
I think the rule of thumb is 2-3 oz for every lb. of body weight, up to a max of 32 oz per day. Don't quote me on that, but I think I remember the pedi telling us that.
As for our baby, he started drinking 6-8 oz. around 6 months old, but he also stretched the time between bottles longer. On the rare occasions that he got bottles all day long, he would consume between 22-28 oz.
Around 5-6 months DD started drinking 6oz bottles 5 times a day (she's ff) and hasn't gone up since then. Just recently her ounces have gone down a lot bc of all the solids she's eating.
At 8 months my boys still take 4-5 ounces in a bottle and eat every 3 hours when bottle fed. I'm sure we could up their bottle ounces and have them go longer between bottles, but I feel certain they don't get more than that from me and I just figured it didn't hurt to keep their bottles the same as what they get when they nurse so as not to mess with the routine. By this time Rhett was on formula and was taking four 8 ounce bottles a day. He did drop his formula consumption right at 9 months. He went on a formula strike and I was lucky to get 20-24 ounces in him a day. Our pedi really wants to see them take a minimum of 24 ounces a day until they hit one year, but I just couldn't always get him to do it.

The toughest time for me was 4-5 months because he was eating 21 ounces at day care plus breast feeding in the morning, twice in the evening and during the night 1-2 times. It was hard to pump enough to get those 21 ounces plus be breastfeeding him that many times. Once he started solids it was a lot easier. He still drinks 19 ounces at day care and breast feeds once in the morning and we give him formula before bed (because it helps him sttn). Right now we give him two 7 ounce bottles and one 5 oz bottle at day care.
