I was telling a funny story about DD not wanting to sit in the grocery cart, trying to climb out, making shopping impossible yesterday. It was an imromptu trip and we didnt have a carrier. So, instead of laughing at my cute baby, they shared unsolicited advice.
Boss says "Why dont you strap her on your back or on your front? Shopping shouldnt be that hard."
I say "I usually do wear her, but I didnt have my carrier with me."
Coworker says "Those slings have been in the news lately"
I say "Yes, its a certain type of sling, where if the baby isnt properly positioned with their chin off their chest, they could suffocate. I dont have that kind."
Coworker says "I dont know why people need to keep their babies in those things instead of putting them in a bouncer seat or swing."
I try to explain AP, and also mention that there are many times with DD will stay asleep for a good nap while i wear her, but as soon as I put her down she wakes up. I explain that I can often get more cooking and cleaning done while wearing her.
Boss says "Oh my goodness. You shouldnt cook like that. Its unsafe"
I smiled and left : )
Re: LOL at a conversation with my boss and a coworker about babywearing
I'm new to the idea of AP, trying to learn as much as possible. I've heard about the slings being recalled but it's not the wraps, it's the ones that look like a purse right?
It's nice of your coworkers to think of your babies' safety, but I'm sure as your LO's mother you would never put your baby in harms way cooking or otherwise.
You did the right thing by letting it go, it's obvious they didn't want to learn anything new that day
Perfect!
Hmmm... great thinking, co-worker. And how exactly would a swing or bouncer help you in the grocery store??
