Masters

I live in Augusta and it's common practice for people in the area to rent out their homes for the Masters Golf Tournament.  This is the first year that we're renting ours out, we only live about a mile and a half from the course and have a 4 br house so we were able to rent it quickly and get top dollar for our kind of house.

We're having a landscaper come and give the yard an overhaul this week and I have a cleaning service coming to do a deep clean the day before the renters check in but I still have to pack up basically everything that we use on a daily basis.  I'm so worried I'm going to either (a) not get everything doen in time or (b) forget to do something important, like leave housekeys for the renters.

Re: Masters

  • wow, thats very cool that you are able to do that and are getting good money!! I bet it is hard to pack everything up!!

  • I have never heard of this but think it's such a cool idea!  Where do you go while they are there?  Good luck getting everything done.  My advice is to start a little list of To-Do's and keep it with you at all times... just jot down whatever you think of as soon as it pops into your mind for the next couple days.  That way you can just go back over it at the end and make sure everything is done.

  • That is so cool! When we were in London we lived in Wimbledon and people did this during the tennis all the time, we contemplated it but then the last two years we were there I was pregnant and then I had a baby so it never worked out! I know people got really good money doing it!

So funny you posted this, I literally laid in best last night and though "I bet Stacie could help me get this stuff organized."  LOL

Schools take the same week as Masters off for Spring Break so a bunch of people go out of town.  Lots of people use their Masters money to take a vacation.  This year we had to spend a good bit of the money on new linens and that kind of stuff for the renters but next year we won't have to do that.  It's great because it forces people like me to clean and declutter!   I have already taken 5 bags of junk to Goodwill!

There is a wide range of rentals.  We live in a 50's ranch, nothing fancy, so we get regular joe's just coming to watch the tournament.  Or, because we're so close to the course we could rent to workers or caddies.  But some of the bigger houses get major sponsors and rent for Mega$$$$.  As in a friend of mine rented to Rolex last year and got ~$20k FOR THE WEEK!!!

My best friend rents to one of the golfers (he won 2 years ago) and she gets about half that.

Some people rent on their own but I've got a friend that does Event Rentals as her business and so she took care of renting mine.  The great thing about that is she is licensed and bonded so if anything were to happen she would be responsible for it.

  • this is DH's first year not going to the Masters and he is heart-broken:(  His friend's usually organize the renting of the houses for their clients.

Good Luck on getting everything done:)

  • Our friends in Augusta do this as well!! They live just a few miles from Augusta national. He's actually a part time caddy there which I think is so cool! He gets to play the course once a year on caddy day. They make a ton of money renting their house out!

    is your friends name Charlie??

  • My Dad and Stepmom started renting our house for Master's Week when I was in college.  That house was in Evans, and they had no probs renting it and got good money for it.  We have tons of family in Augusta, so they would either stay with family or go on vaca.  There was so much to do to get things prepped though. I think my stepmom started in January to get everything done by April.  I love how the whole city pretty much shuts down for this one week and the tons of parties going on too.

Me TOO!!!  SO much fun.  I kinda wish I wasn't missing all the fun this year, it's supposed to be crazy now that Tiger has announced he's playing.  And, last year was kind of dead but everybody is saying that this year is going to be way more people.

My sister lives within walking distance of Bristol Motor Speedway, and they rent out the bottom part of their house. They have a finished basement with its own entrance and driveway, living room/rec room. bedroom and bath. They put a microwave and mini fridge down there, too. It's some work to get everything ready and clean, etc., but they get $$$ for just a few nights. It works out well because the renters are usually just there to sleep--they are out at the racetrack all day and most of the night (especially for the night race in August). It's really worked out well for them--she isn't comfortable renting out her whole house yet. Maybe one day ... :o)

  • Pretty much all of my family lives in Augusta and rent their homes out every year, mostly to the same couples.  They usually start working on it months in advance, only because they repaint due to their young kids.  Other than that, they just make sure there is plenty of closet space, fresh linens, and they keep the pantry stocked with quick breakfast staples and snacky stuff.  The couples spend so much of their time at the course, they usually just drink coffee and sleep there.  Good luck!
