Postpartum Depression

Rough day and kicking myself

I'm having one of those days.  I know that everyone has them and I know it won't last forever.  I also know things that I could or should do to feel better. . . but I just can't seem to make myself do any of them (except eat and I'm likely doing a bit too much of that today).  <sigh>

I am kicking myself because I have not been fabulous about taking my meds.  I am on Pristiq for my PPD and Vyvanse for my ADD (I am a whole mess of alphabet soup these days!).  I have been feeling tired, so I don't take my meds when I first get up because I want to be able to nap when LO goes down in the morning.  And then, well, I get busy and I forget to take them.  I don't "forget" everyday, but more often than is good for me.

So, I am the reason that I don't feel good.  I hate when I do this to myself.  I know that I should take the meds first thing.  Then I will feel better, won't feel the need to nap and I will be able to get stuff done around the house.  And, I think that I'll be a better mom too.  I know that I have the TV on too much during the day (this coming from the mom who was going to try to keep the TV off until DS was two.  HA!  Not so much!).  It is hard, being on my own with him 24/7.  I am ready for a break.

Thanks for listening/reading my vent/whine.  I know that I have the power and the tools to do what I need to do. . . but sometimes, I just can't make myself do what I know that I should.

Re: Rough day and kicking myself

  • i used to have a ton of trouble remembering to take my meds.  can your husband help you out with reminders or actually giving it to you at the same time every day?

  • That is a good idea, but unfortunately, my DH isn't home right now--he's deployed.  But, he'll be home soon and can help me then!  My mom called me this morning to see if I had taken my meds--and I had.  :o)  I do not want to feel like I did yesterday, so I will be much more mindful of taking them.

It has been a much better day so far!  I'm knocking out some chores while LO naps and we will probably take the dog for a walk when LO wakes up.  It feels good to be active.  It also helps that the sun is shining today!

    Thanks for responding!

  • When I was on birth control I set a daily alarm on my cell phone to remind myself. Worked great!

  • I set a reminder on my phone to take my BC pills. I'll do the same for my meds.  I also set a reminder on my email.
