Baby Names

Rose as a MN

What do you all think of Rose as a MN for a girl. I love it, DH thinks it sounds too "old lady-ish". MILs name is Rosalind, which I don't really like, but I love Rose and it's close enough that we would be naming the baby after her, which she would be so happy with.

I was thinking Laura Rose P. (Laura being my mom's name)

Re: Rose as a MN

  • OMG, I love Laura Rose!  If we have another girl, her name will be Anna Sophia Rose.  We do two middle names.  I don't think Rose sounds old lady-ish for a middle name but I wouldn't use it as a first name.

  • It's not old lady anymore. It's extremely popular particularly for a mn, which to me makes it a "filler" mn, like the parents didn't feel like trying to think of something to go with the fn. But, if you love it, go for it! Born in the last three years I know two Emily Roses, an Emma Rose, an Emerson Rose, an Emory Rose, a Madison Rose, a Callie Rose, and a Fiona Rose.

  • Rose was my Great Grandmother's name and will likely be the mn if we are having a girl. I think Laura Rose is beautiful.
  • My second daughter's middle name is Rose after my Gram & DH's aunt.  I think it's a beautiful mn.

I'm really tired of hearing the term "filler" mn.  Some of us actually did put thought into it and grouping it as a "filler" mn is ridiculous.

  • My middle name is Rose and I've always liked it.  I think that Laura Rose sounds very nice!

  • It is very pretty.  For some reason it seems to be a "goto" mn these days - along with Grace.
  • I love the middle name Rose! I'd use it if we ever have a girl, but DH has a negative association with the name. Also, it's not a family name for either of us and I have a hang up with "making up" middle names.

And Laura Rose is beautiful! Yes

me too!  It actually p!sses me off when this is said.  The fact is, it is fairly traditional to use family names as middle names.  Most family names are "older" names such as Rose, Ann, Marie, Grace, Joseph, Paul.  My daughter's middle name is Rose.  I named her after my cousin (best friend) who was killed in a car crash when we were younger.  Definitely NOT  a filler name.

BTW, It is usually the same people who cannot differentiate between trendy and classic(but common) who play the "filler name" card.  That is another pet peeve of mine on this board!

  • I LOVE it!  I think we're probably going to use it for mn for a girl too!
