Anyone else get a hemangioma while pregnant (or any dermatology experts)

I got one on my forehead.  It got soooo big by the end...it was terrible.  It bled and everything.  The dermatologist told me to wait until after pregnancy to let it go down because he did not want to take it off because it would definitely scar.  Well it went down and now it is like the size of a small freckle.  Now, we are going to start trying for number 2 and I do not want this thing getting huge again on me...it really was terrible.  Did any of you get this?  Did you get it removed?  I am wondering if I should get it removed now that it is smaller.

  • I did not know that that could happen.

I would make an appt w/the derm to see if you should have it removed.

  • Even if you get it removed is there a chance that one could still appear during your next pregnancy?

I've never heard of this with pregnant woman, just babies.  My son has one on his foot and the pedi said it will take 7 years to fade.

  • I had one on my back (sorry you had to deal with one on your forehead!!).  I had it removed when I was 6 months pregnant and it returned when I was 8 months pregnant.  It's smaller this time, so I haven't gone to the dermatologist to have it removed yet.

Your doctor might want to have a cosmetic surgeon remove it for you since it's so visible.  I have a mole on my forehead that I don't like, but my dermatologist wouldn't touch it because it's harmless - she recommended a cosmetic surgeon who would charge $250 just to look at it because it's cosmetic, therefore not covered by insurance.   Guess I'm keeping the mole for now!

  • No hemangiomas, but I did get a skin tag on my armpit.  It's still there, but I don't want to get it removed until I stop nursing.
  • A huge one showed up on my shoulder, right where my bra strap lays, at the very end of my pregnancy.  It would bleed all the time.  After she was born it didn't go down at all so I got it removed.  Yeah, there is a scar but it is gone and I can stop ruining bras now.  It wasn't painful at all, very quick procedure.
  • I've got you all beat.  I got one on my nipple.  I can't get it removed until I'm done having kids unless I want to risk being unable to BF.  One Dr. told me it might go away when I wean, but it will probably come back when I get pregnant again.

I probably won't get it removed even when I'm done having kids, but I definitely worry that DS (and future babies) will bite it and make it bleed.

  • I got a pyofenic granuloma right between my boobs. It would get squished when I slept on my side from the weight of the boob on top and it bled pretty badly a few times. I had it removed when I was 12 weeks pregnant, but the scar kind of grew into a new one- it's not as dark and doesn't stick out as far, but you can still see it- it looks like a big zit on my chest. My ob/gyn told me at my 6 week pp appointment that I could get it removed if I wanted, but I haven't made the appointment yet.
  • Whenever I have a pt with a pyogenic granuloma or a small cherry angioma (technically, they're not hemangiomas- that's at birth)....I burn the hell out of the vessels so they don't come back!
