Progesterone shots anyone????

I did IVF #1 on 2/07/10 and will doing IVF #2 in mid April. The first round was BFP and then Chemical pregnancy at 5 weeks :-(( My hip/butt is still so sore from the shots from the first time. When does this go away??? To look at it, you couldn't tell but OMG, it in like a big bruise on each side underneath. Anyone have any good suggestions to prevent this? The shots really weren't bad, just the trauma to the area after a while was rough. It didn't help that the first shot I did was with the drawing needle because I had no idea what I was doing. Hello, SOOO not a nurse. Now I know what the poor turkey at Thanksgiving feels like!!! Any advice?????

After 2 fresh cycles and 3 FETs (all with PIO), all I can say is grin and bear it. I ice up and keep the syringe in my armpit abut 5 min prior to injection..... but it does not stop the scarring. I think PIO is EVIL, but a necessary evil. Good Luck, I'll be joining you in about 3 weeks!!!!

I sit on a heating pad afterwards and it seems to help. Oh my goodness though I can't imagine getting a shot with the mixing needle! No wonder you're sore!

I am doing PIO for my first IVF, so far I am not having a huge problem, but I can tell that my tush will be glad when the shots are over.  Currently I ice the area before and then use a heating pad for 15-20 minues after.  It seems to be working.

Have you tried using Progesterone in Ethyl Oleate (sp?) yet?

 Most RE prescribe Progesterone in Sesame Oil, which is very very thick.

The Ethyl Oleate is thinner and can be injected with a smaller 25 gauge needle and goes in quicker.  It does cost more, but to me, it was worth it.  Less pain, less bruising, less trauma.

Not all pharmacies make it either, so you might have to call around to find it.

I aslo sat on a heating pad for 15-20 min after injecting.
