What month is best for Disney??

We are looking into taking a family vacation to Disney and we are trying to decide *when* to go. We are leaning towards February right now. It has to be the last few months of this year or the first few months of next year.

If you have been to Disney or live in Florida, what is the *ideal* time to go?? Is Feb. too cold? What is the weather like b/w October-Feb??

Thanks!!

BTW, we are staying near the beach (hopefully) will the water be to chilly too get in (Feb)??

Re: What month is best for Disney??

  • I think October or the first week in December. The Holiday stuff starts over Thanksgiving and there are no lines!

  • In the past three or so years, I have gone in April, September and November.

November was the best as far as weather and crowds.

September - the weather was ok but the lovebugs were out and um, ewww. Crowds were ok, not to bad.

April - this was last April and it was hot and very crowded!

  • I always liked the first week of September, because the kids just went back to school and most parents won't take their kids out of school the first week of school. The park is empty.
  • Our favorite times have been early Sept or early Dec.

  • I have always gone in late Oct and it's been great weather.  It's always been warm enough to do the water parks but not sweltering hot.  The parks aren't realy busy that time of year either.

  • I like going mid-late October - mid November.  It's cooler and not nearly as crowded.

  • February the water will be way too cold to go in...Especially if we have a February like we did this year...  We have been throughout the year, and I think the ideal month has been October.  The lines weren't bad at all, the weather is perfect, and yes we still go to the beach in October!!!  March you start running into families on Spring Break, we spent most of the day in line for only 4 rides...not fun...
  • I have gone twice now near the end of September/beginning of October and really enjoyed it. The weather is nice and warm but not hot. The crowds are not overwhelming then. To me it's important to go when the weather is warm enough to feel summery (I live in Chicagoland area) because I want to "feel" like I'm on vacation which means warmer than home.

  • we went this year, Feb 3 and it was EMPTY! Lots of australians (who were probably on "summer" break and preschoolers) BUT the weather in Feb can be cold... not beach weather. We only went in the pool two days during our stay. (we were in Ft. Meyers with my parents) and only went to disney one day.

I wrote about it in my baby travel blog, click below. good luck

  • check out mousesavers.com for lots of info. They have a calendar of hotel rates- the value seasons usually coincide with the least crowded times at the parks.

  • My opinion, April and November are the best months in Florida. I think the weather here is far more predictable than most places in the country, but we do have our spells of unpredictability. This has been our coldest winter on record in many cities, for example.

April is the driest month. It tends to be warm, but not hot, but it can get hot in the late afternoon in the late weeks. My opinion is that makes it perfect because the humidity is low but it's warm, so you can enjoy the park during the first part of the day, and then head to the pool when it gets hot. As for crowds, definitely wait until after Easter to avoid spring break.

I used to love October, but the last couple of Octobers have been miserably hot and I fell out of love. I thought I was going to die from the humidity and sweat when we took Lily trick or treating this year. That's messed up.

November was really nice, and I think the crowds are pretty low that time of the year. If you want to hit the beach or the pool, it might still be warm enough in November.

December, January, and February are a total crap shoot. That time of the year, we get the cold fronts from the north. No, it won't get as cold as up there, but the day the front comes through it's rainy and dreary, and then the next few days are really cold. We had A LOT of that this year. But there were random weekends that it was warm. In other years, we have more warmer weekends than we had this year.

March is out because of spring break. May is eh...but it probably will be hot. June, July, August, and September are miserable.

There's my long-winded opinion for you.

ETA: Yes, the water is too cold for swimming in February. I might just be a wimp, but I don't think so. If you want to do both the parks and the beach, I stand by April and November. Early November.
