Here is a little bit about me. I have twins. Oliver is an awesome sucker and latcher. He weighs about 8lbs. Carson is getting better everyday with his latching and sucking isnt quite as strong as Oliver's. Carson weight about 6lbs. I always try and swtich sides with the boys. One feed A will my RB and B will get my LB and then rotate the next feed.
I'm having a small problem. My RB has a heavy letdown. I mean I've seen it squirt with no suction needed. not a light squirt like a shooting Carson in the eye squirt. He has to come up for air when he is on that breast. He always has so much not make it into his belly because he can't or isn't swallowing fast enough. Oliver on the other hand is excellent on my RB becuase he can keep up with the sucking and swallowing. He will empty it in 10mins and be happy content baby with no spit up.
My LB has less of a flow and Carson does his best with this breast. It flows a lot of slower. He likes this because it gives him to pause, swallow not as fast and go the pace he likes. Oliver hates this breast. He will empty it in 5mins, and need more from the RB.
So my question is should I just not rotate the boys? I know the reasons I should rotate them, eye stimulation. but I hate to see the boys so frustrated when they nurse. What can I do to even this out?
Re: BFing mommies question
This is why I started EPing! It has taken my smaller twin (Alex) until 8 weeks to catch up with his sister (Juliana) when it comes to eating. Now, I can BF them, and try to once or twice a day, but it's easier for me to EP.
You might want to pump from the RB before putting the smaller twin on - that might be enough to empty the breast and reduce the flow for him.
Eek! I didn't realize that EP meant exclusive pumping. That's not what I meant at all. I wanted to say pumping. Try pumping for about 3-5 minutes before feeding Carson on the right breast.
Sorry.
try this, and keep switching sides. Now my "weak"sucker (and the smaller baby) at birth eats like a champ and is 2 lbs heavier than her sister.
