Clumpy milk

Everytime I pump there are always clumps in the milk from my right breast. Every single time. The clumps are stringy and will not go through the bottle leaving my DH and DD#2 frustrated while I'm at work.

Is this something normal? I had the occasional clump with DD#1 but not with every pump session. I'm never engorged when this happens and I'm not going too long between pump sessions.

Re: Clumpy milk

  • My milk gets clumpy/stringy when it separates in the fridge.  But warming it up and swirling it a bit always takes care of it.

If you're not talking about the normal separation of the milk, then I'm not sure what it is or how to fix it!

  • It's clumpy straight from the breast! It is seriously the weirdest thing!

Before I went back to work, I was only pumping once/day (in the AM for a freezer stash) so I just thought that it was just being "fuller". Nope. Every single bottle that I pump has it.

I work at a hospital and the lactation room is right across from the lactation consultant (free for employees!) so I'll just ask her!

  • I had that for the first few months and it was clogs that were coming loose. It eventually stopped happening. I just strained my milk before putting it in the bottles.
