High-Risk Pregnancy

Cholestasis...anyone have it with your first but not with your second child?

I'm hoping for a normal pregnancy this time despite the statistics. I had cholestasis, hypertension/high blood pressure and pelvic separation last time. I know it's not completely high risk but I figured I'd ask on a board where someone may have personal experiences to share.

My son was a preemie, failed induction because of health issues.

Re: Cholestasis...anyone have it with your first but not with your second child?

  • I had cholestasis with my DD and it came back again with this pregnancy.  Based on what few statics are out there it seems the chance of recurrence is between 60 -95%.  I also had GD and pre-eclampsia (just at the bitter end) with my DD.  No, GD this time around but in between the two pregnancies I did lose a considerable amount of weight so that helped lower that risk.

My cholestasis was caught earlier with this pregnancy or this time they just bought that I truly was itchy and tested me earlier.  I'm doing blood work monthly, NST twice a week started at 32 weeks and amnio for lung maturity at 36 weeks with induction to follow.  They induced my DD at 37 weeks and will do that again if the 36 week amnio results aren't clear.

I have to say that knowing what is going on with the cholestasis this time around and what is to come has made it a lot less stressful for my husband and myself.  I'm still itchy and hate that part but I know it ends.

    Good luck.
