Hey! I have an amniotic fluid/discharge question for you! One from 2nd Tri pointed me in your direction
Today, every time I go to the bathroom, I have noticed a large wet spot in my panties that is soaked through. I just went a few minutes ago and it was even more wet than the last time. I don't feel myself pee or anything. It is clear and mostly odorless...I smell something, but it doesn't smell like pee and it is very faint.
What do you think? Should I call? Is it ok to wait another day or so to see what happens? Do you think it might just be discharge?
TIA!
Re: ourkybaby
I'm glad that I'm able to help and I find it kinda funny that I've quickly become known as the leaky amnionic fluid expert!
My expereince was that I noticed that my underware was more wet than anything I had ever experienced in my pregnancy up to that point, which I was at 25W 5D that night that I first noticed it.
It was right before bed, so I thought I'd put on a panyliner and go to bed and if it was still leaking in the am, then I'd call the Dr. In the night I went through 3 pairs of pj bottoms, underware and panty liners.....needless to say we called the dr that next am.
For me it was clear, didn't smell like urine, it actually smells a touch sweet, but i didn't notice that at first.
I noticed it more when I wasn't going to the bathroom, you could just feel something was coming out a little bit even when you weren't moving, just sitting or laying.
My advice would be if it continues to happen or gets worse, you should def have it checked out or for sure ask the Dr if you have an appointment soon.
They told me when I went into L&D to have it checked out that 90% of the time it is just discharge, but I wasn't so lucky. And don't hesitate to go have it checked out if it gives you piece of mind because you and your babies health is #1!!
Thank you for your help! It's definitely not as much as you are describing and if it stays this way do you think it would be ok if I asked at my appt. next Friday? I really don't think it is amniotic fluid, BUT if it was, is there any harm in waiting that long?
I'm glad you are able to help people too, but i'm sorry you have had a rough time with this. I hope everything is going well for you!
My suggestion to be that if it's not seriously leaking through a typical pantyliner, then you can probably wait until you go to the Dr in a week and ask her then. If it gets worse, I would go have it checked out first, or at least call the office and get their opinion, that's what I did.
If you are leaking just a very little, you shouldn't lose enough to "hurt" the baby, i've been down to almost nothing and all is still good with the baby.
The biggest concern is infection if you are leaking because your "barrier" to keep the baby safe in the womb has been breached....so you can just be extra careful for the next week when it comes to "down there" LOL, just in case.
Oh ya and that would mean no baths too, right? I'm not sure this is anything but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry!
never thought about the bath thing, but I've been stuck in the hospital ever since they determined I was leaking, so only showers here, so if it is of concern, I might pass on the baths until you go to the dr.
And I so miss my baths! It's going to be one of the first things I do when I get out of here!!
