I'm contemplating on which one to go with!! Can someone explain to me the difference in the two. The Moby looks kind of complicated to use just from looking at there site. Also, how long can you actually use a sling/wrap for baby? I really think I'm over analyzing my decision on which one to go with.
Re: Moby vs Hotsling
i actually haven't gotten to wear LO yet since he's not here, but i'd say moby. it is much more versatile than the hotsling. yes it is a bit more "complicated" to learn, but i have found several helpful videos on youtube, and learned it pretty quickly. but it does take more time. you can wear your baby in many more positions in the moby vs the hotsling. and in my opinion, it's much more secure.
There is a LOT of baby sling talk recently. I would look more at a Moby, Baby K'tan, Mai Tai Carrier, or Ergo over the Hotsling. They are all more versatile, than just the sling.
Also, consider waiting until after LO is here - it's easier to take the kid with you and try them on with the baby
Though slings themselves aren't bad!
The "dufflebag" slings {Infantino-Slingrider} are dangerous because they hold the baby lower in a C-shape in a carry that's not as controlled as a ring sling or hotsling-like carrier. In a GOOD sling carry, DC will be pressed up against your chest in a more "intimate" hold- I remember even feeling M breathe...there was never a question of if he was alive and okay AND because of the way M fit in the sling, he was propped up more with his head up in a tight hold.
Personally, I LOVED our PeanutShell sling when M was a newborn up until 10lbs...then it killed my back. The Moby and Mei Tei would also work great with a newborn but there's a learning curve to the wrapping part of it. And if you go the soft-structured carrier route- the Ergo, Beco, Bjorn, or Pikkolo {which is what I have} are typically more expensive but easier to strap around you initially.
Just read up reviews on whatever carriers you're interested in...there are pros and cons to every brand/style. And like Sarah said ideally you'll want to try them first with the baby
