Liquor experts: I need some suggestions please

I need to choose one of the following for a gift to give.

I am not familiar with good brands. Can you please recommend what would be a good brand to buy for these different liquors?

Tequila, Scotch and Rum

Tequila - Patron, Cabo Wabo,

Rum - Captain Morgans

Scotch - Glen Levitt, Johnny Walker Red or Black,

Well, if price is no object find a good liquor store, walk in and ask what they reccomend.  As far as what I would buy, I'd say Patron Tequila, some kind of single malt scotch, although I don't know brands, and Rum I have no idea.
