Trying to Get Pregnant

Dollar Tree Tests

Just going to let you know these tests are not accurate before your period. (at least the one I took)   I was due to get my period on the 18th and I took it right away in the morning of the 17th and it was negative.  I just took another one on Monday and confirmed that I was in fact pregnant!

Just a heads up when you think there is no hope there just might be.

Re: Dollar Tree Tests

  • They are in fact very accurate before your period is due. They pick up a very minute amount of HCG, sometimes even <5 that sometimes even FRER doesn't pick up.
  • congrats!  i haven't used the dollar tree tests yet, but will likely pick some up at one time or another.  do they claim to be "early pregnancy tests" or just regular?

  • oh, thanks pp.  looks like you answered my question.
  • I know they are supposed to be very sensitive, but I had a same experience as the org. poster.  I took a $ tree test at 12 DPO with FMU and it was neg (I had also taken tests at 10 DPO and 11 DPO - I admit I have a problem!).  I didn't believe it so went out and bought another brand and took that one an hour later and it was positive. This also just happened to a friend of mine.

Different batches also have different results.

I got a BFP at 9DPO with an internet cheapie w/FMU. I got one that afternoon on a $tree test, too. Then the next day I took a FRER and got a barely-visible so faint you have to squint line with FMU. It just depends.

  • What's the name of the brand?  I got some at 99cent store called "You Test" and I am thinking they aren't working ... but then again, maybe I'm just not pregnant!

The ones at $tree are just called "Pregnancy Test", no real brand name.

  • I have never tried the Dollar Tree Tests but I have checked them out at the stores, they say on the box you can test 5 days before missed period.

I guess they work differently for everyone just like with any HPT.  Congrats on the BFP!

The ones at the DollarTrees by me are "New Choice" brand.

  • They have always been accurate in telling me that I'm NOT pregnant..lol.  But I do HATE their evap lines.  If I stare hard enough I can almost always convince myself that there's a line there.  And OP, I have heard from some ladies on Toddlers 12-24 that had a similar experience as you.  I think it has to do with what Patty said, their quality control must be lacking.
