Hey Parents - We wanted to let all the new people out there know about the petition to the American Academy of Pediatrics about Plagiocephaly. It states, in part, that we are "asking the American Academy of Pediatrics to implement a policy requiring our children's doctors to carefully evaluate every child at birth for cranial abnormalities, and follow up at every well-baby checkup thereafter. We are asking the American Board of Pediatrics to offer various options for treatment when these abnormalities are present." Please click the link above and add your name to the many parents who have already signed. Please also share the link with your family and friends, anyone who cares abou babies and thir headshapes. We need as many signatures as we can get in order to make the AAP hear us.
Re: Plagio (flat spot) awareness petition to AAP, can you help by signing?
It depends. Is this the whole petition? It says, "...in part, that we are 'asking the American Academy of Pediatrics to...."
If this is in part, what else are they asking them to do?
The AAP recommends sleeping babies on their backs and does not recommend sleep positioners. I'd rather have my baby have a flat spot that can be corrected than to die of SIDS, which cannot be corrected.
I'll sign it if I know what the rest of the petition says. Does anyone know where I can find that information?
The link will take you to the full petition. They are not asking to change the recommendation to put babies to sleep on their backs or use sleep positioners. exerpt below.

One of the main purposes of the petition it strictly to get peds to check for plagio and other issues relating to it. A lot of peds are against helmet therapy and never mention it as an option to parents, stating that "heads round out."
We want them to acknowledge plagio and be more proactive about treatment.
