Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Early teething?

DS is typically extremely content - way too easy a baby than I deserve.  Lately, though, he will random cry out and get upset.  He's also become ferocious about having to have something in his mouth to gnaw on.  Not suck.  Hands, toys, sleeves, blankets.  I'm assuming it's teething because he is sometimes so miserable.  I feel so badly.  What have you found that works for your teether?  And do you give meds?  If you think it could be something else, I'm all ears.  The change in his temperament tells me it has to be something and this is the only thing I can find that fits the bill.

  • Aidan's been the same way. He won't chew on teething rings, etc. He will gnaw on Sophie for all of 2 minutes a day. He'd rather play with her than chew on her. We used baby orajel once when he was particularly bad 2 nights ago. It helped long enough for him to fall asleep, but the next day of course he was back to normal. We're trying not to use it too much. I don't have any other advice. Aidan does like cold washclothes to chew on.

  • DD started teething around 3 1/2 months and has a tooth popping through now.  I finally gave her some Tylenol the other night, just because she was so uncomfortable & crying.  I give her those teething toys that are filled with water that go in the fridge (honestly, I started putting them in the freezer, even though you're not supposed to ::gasp::)...I also freeze a wet washcloth in the shape of a circle so it's easy for her to hold.
  • I thought my LO started teething ... chewing, smacking gums/lips, making lots of drool with bubbles ... but the pedi checked her gums yesterday and said that she didn't feel any teeth coming through.  She said that it's normal for babies to behave like this when they discover their 'mouth' as a way of exploring and discovering things.  However, some babies' teeth do start to emerge as early as 2 months.

My LO won't take a teething ring either.
