How much effort do you put into friendships?

There is someone that my DH used to work with that he wanted me to befriend his wife. SO I have invited her to a ton of stuff and she always said she would be there and then no shows. Ok so this is pretty annoying but the final straw was a dear friend of mine planned a brunch honoring my son and this lady didn't show up. Her response was "sorry I forgot because we have been out the past 2 nights" "out"= binge drinking. I am seriously so annoyed that I am done trying to be her friend. Ok if you want a drink or night out but going out every weekend binge drinking is not a priority for me anymore. Sorry it's just not. Vent over.

Ugh so how much effort is too much effort?

meh, I'd leave it. If it gets brought up then say you've tried and the ball is in her court. You have two kiddos now, you don't have time to just sit around and be available for someone else.

Thanks I am really thankful for the great friendships I have made through my kids. I know I can count on them and hopefully you guys can count on me. :-) Oh and we love our little United Nations group. :-)

Hmm, that dosen't sound like someone I would want in my life these days. College? Yes. Now? Nope.

DH and I are struggling with this concept right now. We are tired of always being the ones "chasing" our friends around. We feel like we would never speak to or see them if we didn't call and make an effort to connect. We have actually had some discussions on this lately and have decided to reevaluate how we handle friendships.

We are trying this: call once, if there is no answer, leave a message. If there is no call back, try again a few days later, no message this time. After that, the ball is in their court.

Don't know how it will work out, but that is what we are trying.
