Should I take DS in to pedi?

Since Sat. night Max has been running fevers in the evening and in the  middle of the night.   The first night it was 102, the second it reached 105.3, and last night 103.4.  It comes down eventually with meds and stays very low during the day.  He's eating ok and plays a bit, but maybe not at his usual intensity.  He did vomit last night, but that was because he started coughing and was gagging.

Would you take him in?  Part of me says of course and another part of me thinks that its probably just a virus and he is responding to the meds, so what will they do for him?

Re: Should I take DS in to pedi?

  • I wouldn't. My pedi only wants to see them if the fever stays high (104+) for more than 24hrs and/or won't respond to meds. As long as he generally seems okay, I would probably just wait it out.

  • I agree with you. My first response would be yes, if for nothing else but for peace of mind. Plus they will check everything out that COULD be causing the virus. But most likely, the reality is, they will diagnose it as a virus. I get so frustrated---99.9% of the time my kids are sick, there's not much they or I can do about it.

Big hugs to him, I hope the little guy gets better soon.

  • Same thing is going on with my DS, his fever started on Thursday, and he's still running it. We finally took him in yesterday, and the Pedi said it was viral, and that it was going around.  They tested him for everything, and it all came back normal, so we are now just alternating between motrin and Tylenol. We were told if he was still running the fever, and feeling awful by Thursday to bring him back to get reevaluated.
  • I'd probably call. If they suspect virus based on what you tell them, I would hope they would just say wait it out.  I don't know how long though on the fever part of it before bringing him.
