I am only supplementing while at work and hope to BF in the morning and at night, but I am scared to tell MIL this! She is watching LO one day a week, so I have to tell her that we are using formula. MIL is a lactation consultant too, so I think this is where the added pressure is coming from! I am nervious she will be disappointed in me...anyone else?
Re: Anyone nervous telling MIL they are switching to Formula?
Um, ME! My MIL likes to throw failures back in people's faces and we failed with BF'ing big time. I tried EVERYTHING, supplements, more milk plus, reglan, etc and my supply never picked up. I pump at MAX 6 oz a day and she gets formula the rest of the time. She has been getting formula for 3 weeks now and we still haven't told her about it because I don't want it thrown back in my face. It was hard enough to admit BF'ing didn't work for us. I don't need to feel guilty about it on top of everything else.
Are you really worried about what your MIL thinks or are you maybe just not comfortable with your decision? If you are comfortable with your decision I wouldn't worry. Your decisions about LO are yours to make and she will just have to deal. I actually seem to have the opposite problem. My mom doesn't seem to understand my choice to EBF and keeps hinting at eventually switching. I have gotten pretty good at just tuning out the hints.
