Carseat help where do you install on seat?

With our DD due less than 3 weeks (our first child) we have installed the car seat and the extra base in the husbands car. We have the chico. Well one of my husbands friends asked why we don't have her car seat in the middle of the back seat. We have it behind the passanger seat. Reading the mannual it didnt state where to put the seat. Do you ladies know if its better to have behind the passanger or in the middle? I figured it was easier to take in and out behind the passanger seat. Suggestions or thoughts on this would be great!!!!

Thanks a BUNCH and HAPPY MONDAY!

Re: Carseat help where do you install on seat?

  • The center seat is always the safest. That being said, many people have car seats on the side seats of the car and it is perfectly legal. The decision is yours.
  • The middle is usually recommended just because in the event of a side impact crash the baby is more protected from being in the center of the car. If you have worries, I would contact the hospital at which you'll deliver and ask for their child passenger safety technicians. I think all the hospitals have them because they all do car seat installations for patients. Just ask them what they would recommend and why, and what the pros and cons are. They'll be the most knowledgeable.

  • I was wondering the same thing. I read that the middle is safest but also read somewhere that if you have a armrest that comes out of the middle seat that the carseat would have to go on one of the sides. I have a '10 Nissan Sentra and it has a cupholder/arm rest thing that comes out of the back of the seat in the middle so I'm guessing I'll have to put it on the passenger side??

  • I am a child safety seat tech and the middle is the best, because the most deadly accidents are side impacts.
  • Thanks Ladies! Looks like we will be moving it to the middle! Big Smile
