NBR - rec. your local bank please

We are interested in opening a new bank account, and we'd prefer to go with a local or relatively local bank or credit union. Any recommendations??

  • We use APLUS FCU and are really happy with them.  It used to be the teachers' credit union, but I think they are open to anyone now.

  • I've been a member of University Federal Credit Union since 1992 and will probably stick with them for life.  My mother is a member via my UT alumna status and DH became a member before we were even married.  If you aren't UT alumni, current students or employees, or family members of any of the above, you can still become a member by making a $20 donation to the Longhorn Foundation.

  • Ditto kimmiebride for UFCU. We just moved to them & it was simple & painless. You can join for free if you are a UT Alum, donating to their foundation, or if you are/become a member of Wheatsville Co-Op.
  • we just joined the UFCU and love it as well. we got a great rate on a car loan, they were super easy to work with, and the staff has always been friendly.

  • I like Velocity and UFCU.

UFCU will link w/ Mint.com if that's an issue for you (Velocity won't).
