After an uneventful pregnancy, my sister gave birth on thursday, expecting some hip issues for her LO because she was breech and jammed under her ribs. However, we didn't expect our Maddie (her LO) to end up in the NICU with pneumonia. Fortunately, she is going to need antibiotics but will hopefully otherwise be fine.
While spending time in the NICU with her, my sisters and I ended up having a conversation not about our newest addition or the other babies, but about the parents of the babies in the NICU. I am in awe of these people who, aside from the emotional exhaustion are also being physically challenged (in most cases) by having to take care of a newborn with additional barriers. It amazes me that so many people who are not medical professionals or, for the most part, not even "at home" in a hospital setting, are able to handle such challenges with grace--even offering other parents a smile or encouraging nod. I've read about parents' NICU experiences on here so many times without thinking twice, but you guys really deserve a pat on the back. You're incredible.
